The North-West Women Development Forum (NWDF) has called on Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader, to surrender arms and give peace a chance.

Turji has been on the wanted list of the security operatives for long.

The women spoke at a meeting held under the aegis of North-West Women Development Forum, NWDF, in Abuja on Friday.

The meeting was meant to offer prayers for the region, the entire country and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The meeting also commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for taking out Turji’s top lieutenant, Kallamu Buzu in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Buzu and several others were killed by troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force of Operation Hadarin Daji.

Media reports also stated that Turji was deeply affected by the news of the killing. He has threatened revenge and allegedly blamed another lieutenant for the lapses that led to Buzu’s death after a failed mission targeting local traders in Sabon Birni.

Speaking at the meeting, the Public Relations Officer of NWDF, Salamatu Bello, said the people are happy with how the Armed Forces is tackling and decimating unrepentant bandits and terrorists in the region.

She said NWDF gathered in Abuja to pray for the North-West, the entire country and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for Allah’s intervention and restoration of peace.

“We cannot continue like this. We have come here to pray for our region, the entire country and the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the able Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede. We are also praying for repose of souls of our troops who are making sacrifices for our country.

“We are happy the quiet way the CDS and his troops are putting the bandits and terrorists where they belong. As mothers, we appeal to Bello Turji to surrender before it is too late.”

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Government  has commended the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for yet another significant success in the ongoing fight against banditry across the state.

The governor’s aide on security, Ahmed Usman praised the swift response, professionalism, and courage displayed by the military personnel, stating that it averted what could have been a tragic incident and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property.

“The State Government deeply appreciates this effort and acknowledges the consistent sacrifices being made by our security forces.

“We encourage them to sustain the momentum and intensify operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements not only from Sokoto State but also from the entire North-West subregion,” Mr Usman said.
