Over 40 political support groups across geo-political zones and political parties in Nigeria, the Coalition For Betara (CFB), on Friday, endorsed the lawmaker representing Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency of Borno state, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, for the position of Speaker in the 10th National Assembly.
Spokesperson of CFB, Comrade Mohammed Eneji, stated this in Abuja, during a press briefing, describes Hon Betara as a vibrant, trusted and a charismatic leader with per excellence.
Eneji said: “We are proud to unite and harmonise all forces to ensure that he is overwhelmingly supported and ultimately elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the Tenth Assembly because we strongly believe that if he is given the opportunity, he would consolidate on Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila’s achievements and deliver to us, the Nigeria of our dreams.
“His track record, achievements and wealth of experience as one of the few lawmakers who has served in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th assemblies. He is currently the chairman house committee on appropriation which has shown that he is the best. He is most equipped and most qualified candidate for to Steer and to precide over the House of Representatives of Nigeria.
“What we have gathered here to do today is to set aside personal interests and party affiliations and to lay emphasis on why it is of paramount importance that the house of representatives is headed by the most capable hand and to say in one strong united voice that our support is for the best man.
“Our discussions and deliberations will center around structuring our advocacies towards all the key factors in ensuring that Hon. Betara becomes the Speaker. By this, we are joining in charting a way forward, to ensure that the future of our dear County is in safe hands.
“To this effect we shall rub minds and come up with a comprehensive and result oriented agenda to ensure the success of this coalition and by extension the betterment of Nigeria, we will transmit our deliberation to Honorable Betara, and also present officially, our position today to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, The President Elect, all the political party National Chairmen and all key political / socio-cultural groups and other relevant stakeholders of the Nigerian project.”
They further stated that Hon Aliyu is the future of our nation resides solely on the strength of the youths and it’s imperative to chart the course for an experienced, visionary, intellectually-inclined candidate with clarity of purpose such as Hon. Aliyu Betara who has continued to exhibit a great penchant for recognizing youthful legislation and to harness the potentials of the youths as collaborators in our nation’s development process.
The coalition while quoting the the words of Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Kailash Satyarthi, which read; “The power of youth is the common wealth of the entire world. The faces of young people are the faces of our past, our present and our future. No segment in the society can match with the power, idealism, enthusiasm and courage of the young people.”
They said that what Nigerians can come to expect of Hon Betara is legislation that will unite this country, legislation that values youth and women empowerment and inclusiveness, as well as protecting the overall interest of the young and old alike in all his dealings.
He call on the old and newly elected house of representatives members of all the parties whom we will be meeting, to consider the interest of youths and future of our nation by electing Honourable Aliyu Betara in the forthcoming election of the principal officers of the house.
