No fewer than thirteen people have been reportedly killed in another renewed communal clash during a twin attack in villages of Wukari local government area of Taraba state, between Hausa/Fulani, who are predominantly Muslims on one side and Jukun, who are predominantly Christians on the other side.
This is coming only just two weeks after crisis ensued between the said tribes in Ibbi local government area of the state, where five people were killed and property burnt.
According to Hausa Service of the BBC, monitored in Jos, the first clash occurred in Hoku village on Saturday night, while the second attack took place in Zandio, in the early hours of yesterday all in Wukari leading to the destruction of lots of property worth millions of naira.
The chairman youth group of Jukun, Mwunban Bushi alleged that the attack was launched by the Hausa/Fulani; but Audu Ali, who is the youth chairman of Hausa/Fulani repelled the allegation, saying it was not true. Audu said that, “ It is not true that the attack was launched by our people. Where can we get weapons that we will fight with. If Jukun are accusing us of launching the assault, let the security operatives come to our houses and investigate. We are armless.”
The BBC further reported that the Divisional Police Public Relations Officer (DPRO) of the Taraba Police Command, Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident and added that the situation was under control.
