Edo state Independent National Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) on Thursday gave a clean Bill of health to 18 All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Candidates to contest the March 3rd 2018 Local Government election in the state.
Mr. Tony Alile, Director of Media and Communications, EDSIEC, said all the chairmen and their Vice-Chairmen seeking elective positions and Councilors from Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha were also screened.
He said the screening and verification of credentials of the Candidates begun on Thursday at the EDSIEC secretariat in Benin City, and would end on Monday next.
Alile, revealed that some contestants in the Local Government polls who submitted themselves for the screening, were rejected by the Commission and tax officers at Edo Inland Revenue service (EIRS).
He said about six political parties that have picked and returned their nomination forms to this Commission some days ago.
Commenting on the exercise, APC Chairmanship Candidates, Mr. Frank Ilaboya (Owan West), John Akhigbe (Etsako Central), Don Umoru (Akoko-Edo) as well as Lady Belinda Ogiefa, Vice-Chairmanship Candidate (Oredo) Local Government Areas, promised effective leadership, while, Engr. Emmanuel Ogedegbe (Igueben), Patrick Aguinede (Esan West), Destiny Enabulele (Ovia south West), and Dr. Eric Osayande (Ikpoba-Okha), promised to bring their experience to bear in governance and deliver on their mandate if elected.
According to Chairmanship Candidate of Esan West Local Government Area, Patrick Aguinede, “this is a step in the right direction and opportunity for me to bring my experience in the business sector to bear with the principal intent to leave a lasting legacy”.
