The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Thursday were in celebration mood over defection of two members from the Action Alliance (AA) to their party.
Defection of the two members, Hon. Uju Chima and Hon. Obi Chigozie, from Imo State, was announced by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila during Thursday’s plenary.
The defection took place in
the presence of Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, former Governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, as well as the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Emmanuel Ibediro and a few others.
Ibediro described the defection as a good harvest for the party, saying “For us in the APC, today is a happy day, because we are here to harvest”, the national organising secretary stated at a media briefing just after the formal announcement.
According to him, decision of the two lawmakers to join the APC was “an endorsement of the good things the party is doing, the good things President Muhammadu Buhari is doing, and we congratulate and welcome them into the party”, stressing that there are no late comers in the APC.
Also speaking, the defecting lawmakers separately explained that they left the AA due to plethora of litigations, as well as division within the party.
“I took the decision after due consultation, and following persistent infighting and litigations in the AA. I am now a member of the APC”, Hon. Chigozie stated.
On his part, Hon. Chima, who said there had been an existing alliance between AA and the APC, observed that as it is today, “Imo State has actually been conquered by the APC, and there is need to return home”.
