Two applicants yesterday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N40, 000 from a beer joint. The accused, Emmanuel Christopher, 27, and Chika Emmanuel, 19, of no fixed address are charged with two counts of joint act and theft.
He said that the complainant reported that on April 1, the accused persons went to her beer joint in Dape village and robbed her of N40, 000.Idi told the court that the accused persons stole her Nokia cell phone valued at N6, 000 and harassed her customers.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the penal code.If found guilty, the accused are liable to conviction an imprisonment for a term of not less than five years each or with an option of fine.
After the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.The presiding judge, MalamAbubakarSadiq, admitted them to bail in the sum of N20, 000 each.Sadiq adjourned the case until May 8 for further hearing. (NAN)
