Former Head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has urged politicians in the country  to remain  focused and accept defeat during and after elections.

General Abubakar made the call yesterday in Gombe when he paid a condolence visit to  the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, in order to commiserate with him over the death of his father who pass on recently.

Speaking shortly after he commiserated with the Emir, General Abdulsalami told newsmen in an interview that there is urgent need for politicians across the country to  always accept defeat if they are not elected into office, noting that politics is not a do or die affair.

“In politics, there must be a winner and a loser and he who lost should accept defeat because elections is a game of number, therefore a loser should accept defeat”, he said.

He called on the people  to ensure that peace and stability is restored in the country, pointing out that without peace, there would be no meaningful development.

The General also emphasised the need for Nigerians to shun terrorism, even as he said those who are behind the scene should give peace a chance to enable the country forge ahead.
