2015: Group denies donation for purchase of Jonathan’s presidential nomination form

Date:

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), has denied speculations that it donated the sum of N2million for the purchase of nomination form for the presidential bid of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan towards the 2015 presidential election.

This was contained in a statement signed jointly by the group’s national president, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya and publicity secretary, Comrade Adikwu Omale Joshua, and issued to journalists in Kano.

According to the statement, the association does not in any form, engage in political activities in the country, but pursue appropriate means to bring development to societies and fight societal ills among youth in the Northern region and the country at large.

The statement reads in parts, ” The National Leadership of the Northern Youth Assembly, on behalf of the Nineteen Northern States Chapters of the group, members and its affiliated organisations, wish to categorically disassociate itself from the widespread speculation credited to the group by some individuals and groups in some quarters, on the purported and acclaimed financial contribution to the tune of two million naira, to support the purchase of a nomination form for the presidential bid of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the 2015 General Elections, at a programme held on Saturday, in Kano on the 25th Oct. 2014.”

However, the statement pointed out that the association that held the programme was a different platform with different ideology and course from NYA, adding that the group’s name was Northern Youth Forum (NYF), not Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), as widely speculated.
