2019 election: Shekarau declares interest in PDP

The former Minister of Education and two term Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau has formerly declared his interest to contest for the Presidency in the upcoming 2019 general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Governor’s spokesperson, Sule Ya’u Sule, made this known yesterday, adding that Shekarau has sent a letter to PDP notifying them of his intention to run for the Presidency.
Admittedly, the spokesperson of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, acknowledged that the party has received Shekarau’s interest letter to run under its platform.
Sule said that the former Governor had made his political intentions known irrespective of ethnic and political alliance to different community leaders, opinion leaders, religious leaders and political associates.
Shekarau, according to his spokesperson, had personally signed and sent a letter to Hassan Indabawa, who is said to be his political associate on August 22, 2017.
He said in the letter, he disclosed to him of requests he had received from different individuals and groups recommending him to contest for the 2019 presidential election.
Sule said that Shekarau had refused making his ambition known in the newspapers first or did he want important stakeholders to read it in the newspapers until he notified them first, before making necessary consultations.
Although the party had zoned it position to the north, the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, from the South-West had also declared his interest to run for the 2019 presidential election.
