A political group, Good News Nigeria (GNN), has declared support for former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s open letter, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to retire from active public service.
The group, in a statement signed and issued by its National Coordinator, Engr Dauda Mbaya, and the Director, Media & Public Affairs, Mathew B Victor, said it was time to give way to credible alternative to deliver the much needed democratic dividends.
While commending former President Obasanjo for standing by the truth, they appealed to President Buhari to honourably heed to Obasanjo’s advise, by staying off the forthcoming 2019 presidential election.
The group reiterated the need to encourage fearlessness, uprightness and patriotism in political participation that will redefine Nigeria’s narrative
“it’s time to see more patriots informed President Buhari to honourably bow-out of office by 2019 and give way to credible alternative, Buhari lacks the ability to deliver the much needed democratic dividends and have nothing at all to offer anymore.”
“Our mentor retired Col Abubakar Dangiwa Umar who is known for this, it’s time to see more patriots informed. Therefore, for us to achieve a true and united nation by 2019.
“It is no virtue to keep silent in the name of reflection while many literally die in heart-rending misery.
“We call on Nigerians to stand up for what is best for the nation and lay the best foundation necessary for a united Nigeria by ensuring that Abubakar Dangiwa Umar is joined with any of the southern Nigeria shinning stars as running mate respectively.
“Given the present situation,Nigerians don’t want a President that needs to think for so long before acting on serious issues especially,at a time when many Nigerians were being slaughtered,” the group stressed.
