2022 World Cup: Eagles reject NFF’s N1m Win-Bonus for Liberia match

The Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation are yet to reach a compromise on the unpaid match bonus.
Report suggests both parties clashed again over N1m match bonus offered to the players for beating Liberia in Lagos last Friday.
The reports stressed further that, the NFF offered a sum of N1m for the bonus and the players rejected the money, saying they did not agree to the said amount.
Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, had on Tuesday given assurance that the Super Eagles will earn more than $5,000 win-bonus during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers starting with the match against Liberia on Friday and the encountered against Cape Verde yesterday.
This latest development has become a topic of debate in the media, with many suggesting that, the disagreement could cost the Nigeria World Cup tickets, if not properly managed.
The increment of the match bonus according to NFF is to ensure that the team qualify for Qatar 2022 amidst grumblings by the team over unpaid bonuses and outstanding allowances which has become a battle between the federation and the senior players.
The NFF chiefs had in a meeting with “senior” players last Thursday promised to increase the team’s match bonus from $5,000 (though, no amount that would be added was mentioned).
This comes after a recent revelation by Rangers defender, Leon Balogun that the Eagles are owed several bonuses despite many promises by top officials that the monies will be cleared.
His disclosure reportedly embarrassed the NFF leadership, but coach Gernot Rohr insisted on picking him for the World Cup qualifiers against Liberia.
Meanwhile, CEO, Air Peace, Allen Onyema has promised the Super Eagles the sum of Twnety million naira (#20m) if they win Cape Verde in today’s encounter.
