Gambo, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (CPPLans), Rear Admiral Saidu Garba noted that this 2023 first quarter march was specifically organized as a show of force to assure Nigerians that the armed forces of Nigeria and indeed the Nigerian Navy is ready to ensure that citizens of Nigeria go out and vote without any hindrance or molestation.
He further said that the Nigeria Navy shall support police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make sure any miscreant that is found disrupting the electoral process will be dealt with without any kind of mercy adding that the riot act has already been read to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to the Naval Chief “the Route March is organized earlier than scheduled as a show of force to prepare personnel to be mentally and physically fit for the forthcoming 2023 General Elections. Furthermore, it is aimed at developing personnel physical and mental alertness to meet the dynamics of contemporary security operations as well as fostering esprit de corps and providing an avenue for relaxation.
“We have the modality for the conduct of the election which have been read to them and they have all been properly briefed as to their conduct during the election. We shall maintain an exterior periphery in the general election process and we will support the police and will be the ones very close to the officers.
“We shall give necessary escort duties and protection when required and I want to assure Nigerians that the Nigerian Navy and indeed the Armed Forces of Nigeria are ready to protect this process of election that will be holding very soon”.
