2023: Northern groups endorse Osinbajo

A coalition of political groups in northern Nigeria has endorsed Vice President Yemi Osibanjo as the preferred choice for the 2023 presidential elections.

The coalition made its position known through a statement issued at a one-day joint conference on the political participation of the north and the change of power with the theme “Northern Agenda: Our Real Solution” at the Arewa House in the state. of Kaduna.

The statement was signed by Engr. Daniel Shawulu for Arewa Consensus Assembly, Suleman Makama, National Partnership campaign project, Khalid Mohammed Joint Participation Initiative for Development.

The group stated that after critical discussions and deliberations on political issues bordering grassroots political participation, the Arewa / north interest, the broader interest, Nigerian unity and peace, the rotation of power and the upcoming general elections , the conference reached the following result;

“The joint conference critically looked at the current security challenges in northern Nigeria, condemned them in their entirety and appealed to the general public to partner with the government to end the relentless chaos.

“The Joint Conference further noted that insecurity, although prevalent in the north, is a national problem that must be urgently addressed through the use of broader strategies in support of the armed forces and other police interventions.

“The real interest of the North is about the great majority of the people of the North, not the parochial interest of a few who tend to be more vocal and claim to speak on behalf of the“ North ”. The true wish of the North is a better Nigeria for all where there is hope and satisfaction.

“The North recognizes that there is an urgent responsibility to build and foster trust among the different ethnic and geopolitical areas of Nigeria, as well as to mitigate religious differences and insecurities among the people of Nigeria.

“The Joint Conference admits that the next most acceptable Nigerian president will have an appeal that crosses ethnic, religious and other demographic lines, especially young people considering Nigeria’s more recent history and trajectory.

“Such a person must have a proven track record of national service and a track record of believing in the unity of Nigeria. Integrity and a proven record of modesty, energy, experience and conduct that exemplifies and inspires confidence in demographics and across the country are non-negotiable.

“In addition to qualities, the Joint Conference firmly believes that the ability to participate internationally, strong health, energy, mobility and versatility are vital attributes in leading Nigeria to truly shared prosperity for all.

“Although the Joint Conference made its previous deliberations, considerations and resolutions in the broader interest of the North, and not in a partisan or specific candidacy, the Joint Conference notes that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo SAN, GCON fits and addresses the issues of balance, qualities and attributes expressed and resolved by the Joint Conference.
