The All Progressives Congress Presidential council has criticised Peter Obi over his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, accusing him of making assertions without evidence.
Dele Alake, spokesman for the council, stated this on Friday while reacting to Obi’s remarks during a BBC interview.
Obi had said, “I don’t like going back to the past. I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election. Everything is not based on evidence.”
Reacting, Alake faulted the former Anambra State governor’s position, insisting that the official election results and court judgments affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election. The Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court subsequently upheld the result.
Alake argued that Obi’s continued claim of victory disregarded the official outcome of the election.
He also defended Tinubu’s administration, citing its economic reforms, infrastructure projects and initiatives in education, healthcare and job creation.
However, the statement did not provide specific evidence to support the administration’s claimed achievements.
Alake also challenged Obi to honour an earlier pledge to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if it was established that his administration left liabilities in Anambra State.
He claimed that the state’s financial records had established the issue but did not provide details of the alleged liabilities.
The exchange comes as political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
