The federal government plans to spend over N14.39 billion on purchasing computers — laptops and desktops — in over a 100 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in the 2924 fiscal year.
Another N28 billion was also budgeted for the acquisition of computer software by more than 90 MDAs, TheCable Index analysis of the 2024 budget shows.
A software is a set of instructions, data or programmes used to operate computers and execute specific tasks.
On December 1, 2023, the upper and lower parliament passed the 2024 budget proposal of N27 trillion for the second reading.
President Bola Tinubu later presented the appropriation bill to a joint session of the national assembly in November.
The proposed 2024 budget is still awaiting the final approval of the national assembly.
Specifically, in the 2024 budget, 109 MDAs plan to spend N14,397,404,379 on purchasing laptops and desktops; while a total of 96 MDAs are expected to expend N28,369,134,635 on acquiring computer software.
