The Renewed Hope Advocates of Nigeria, a prominent political advocacy group, has lauded the harmonious relationship between Nigeria’s executive and legislative arms, citing it as a major factor in the country’s current democratic stability.

In a statement released yesterday after the Orgànisation press conference to mark Democracy Day, the group praised the cooperation between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing their synergy as vital to the smooth and peaceful operation of government.

Signed by REHAN’s coordinator, Comrade Prince Miaphen, the statement also congratulated Nigerians for sustaining democracy over the past 26 years. Miaphen commended the Tinubu-Akpabio partnership as a “shining example of executive-legislative collaboration” that has positively influenced governance and policy implementation.

Speaking in Abuja, Miaphen announced the group’s 2025 Democracy Day theme: “Executive-Legislative Synergy: A Foundation for Sustained Democracy and Development.” The theme, he said, is intended to highlight the importance of unity, mutual respect, and cooperation among branches of government in promoting national progress.

“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are witnessing a new chapter in executive-legislative cooperation—especially between the Presidency and the Senate—unmatched in recent political history,” Miaphen noted.

He praised Senate President Akpabio for his patriotic leadership of the 10th National Assembly, aligning effectively with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s objectives. According to Miaphen, the current level of collaboration has been central to the stability of government and the successful rollout of major reforms.

“Unlike in past administrations, where friction between the executive and legislature disrupted governance, the present relationship is driving coordinated efforts toward national development,” he said.

Miaphen recalled how previous executive-legislative conflicts led to stalled reforms, delayed budgets, and declining public trust. In contrast, he said, the mutual respect between President Tinubu and Senator Akpabio has resulted in timely passage of legislation and effective oversight of reforms designed to revive the economy.

He cited major legislative achievements made possible by this synergy, including early budget approvals, economic reform laws, tax policy revisions, investment protections, and infrastructure development initiatives—key elements of Nigeria’s long-term development strategy.

The group also attributed bold policy decisions—such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate—to the strong legislative backing under Akpabio’s leadership. Miaphen stressed that such difficult reforms would have faced stiff resistance in a hostile legislative environment.

“The Senate under Akpabio has supported the administration without compromising its independence,” he said. “It continues to perform its legislative duties effectively while constructively engaging with the executive to deliver democratic dividends.”

Describing Akpabio as a visionary with deep political insight, Miaphen said his leadership has struck a balance between independence and cooperation, transforming the Senate into a driver of national unity and progress.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is being realized steadily, thanks in large part to the support of the National Assembly under Senator Akpabio,” Miaphen added.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging that the impact of reform policies may take time to materialize and will require public patience. He expressed confidence that current economic hardships will eventually give way to prosperity if legislative support remains strong.

Miaphen also advised states experiencing executive-legislative tensions to adopt the cooperative model demonstrated by Tinubu and Akpabio for the greater good.

In closing, he encouraged lawmakers nationwide to emulate Akpabio’s commitment to national interest by enhancing oversight, accelerating key legislation, and aligning with President Tinubu’s development agenda.

REHAN, he said, remains dedicated to defending democratic gains and supporting efforts to build a stable, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.
