President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Oluwaseyi Johnson has praised the national women’s team for securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria booked their place in the knockout stage after edging India 7-6 in their final Group B match, setting up a quarterfinal clash against Australia.
The West African side showed remarkable resilience, recovering from defeats in their opening two matches to secure a crucial victory in their final group fixture.
Reacting to the team’s achievement, Johnson commended the players for their determination and fighting spirit.
He explained that the players have been properly motivated and assured them of continuous support. Johnson said:
“I am incredibly proud of the resilience and character displayed by our women’s team. Despite a difficult start to the competition, they remained focused, believed in themselves, and earned a well-deserved place in the quarterfinals.
“Qualifying for the knockout stage is a testament to their hard work, discipline, and commitment. We know the challenge against Australia will be tough, but we are confident the team will give their best and continue to make Nigeria proud.”
He also urged the players to remain focused as they prepare for the quarterfinal encounter, expressing confidence in their ability to compete with the tournament’s top teams.
