The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has described the year 2026 as a “season of renewal” for the Commission, calling on the workforce to deepen their faith in the Nigerian project.
Amupitan, in a New Year message addressed to National Commissioners, Resident Electoral Commissioners, and staff across the country, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing employee welfare as a cornerstone of electoral success.
Reflecting on the milestones of the previous year, the INEC Chairman expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the support received since his assumption of office on October 23, 2025.
He specifically pointed to the successful conduct of the Anambra State Governorship Election as a testament to the Commission’s resilience, noting that the staff’s unwavering dedication demonstrated that the sanctity of the ballot remains the institution’s highest priority.
According to the INEC Chairman, the discipline and unity shown during that period proved that the Commission is well-equipped to protect the nation’s democracy.
As the Commission enters a busy electoral cycle, Prof. Amupitan charged the personnel to prepare for the immediate challenges of 2026.
This, he pointed out, includes the FCT Area Council Elections scheduled for February, as well as the off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
Beyond these immediate polls, he emphasized that preparations for the upcoming General Elections remain paramount.
He expressed full confidence that through collective effort, the Commission would deliver a free, fair, credible, and inclusive process that meets the expectations of all Nigerians.
Central to this new chapter, according to him, is a renewed focus on the internal bond within the Commission.
The Chairman reaffirmed his inaugural pledge to foster a workplace built on equity, where discipline is maintained alongside a culture that ensures every staff member feels valued and protected.
He encouraged the workforce to brace themselves for the opportunities ahead, urging them to serve with excellence to build an INEC that is “trusted by all and sundry.”
Closing with a message of hope, he prayed for health and prosperity for the staff and their families as they work toward achieving remarkable milestones for the nation.
