Aspirant for the Gashaka, Kurmi, Sardauna Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fanuel D. Lawrence, has vowed to bring development and called on residents of the constituency to participate fully in the electoral process and avoid political apathy.
Lawrence made the remarks at the weekend in Sarti, the administrative headquarters of Gashaka local government council of Taraba State, where he commissioned a newly renovated party secretariat. The project, Peoples Daily learnt, was personally financed by the aspirant.
Addressing supporters and party stakeholders, Lawrence urged eligible voters to take their civic responsibilities seriously.
“Don’t just sit down and say your vote doesn’t count, be part of the process. Ensure you get your voter’s card, go out on election day, and make sure your voice counts. By so doing, we will no doubt emerge victorious.”
He described his ambition as a divine mandate aimed at “wiping away the tears of the people” and “changing the narratives” in the constituency, which he said has suffered decades of neglect and poor representation.
According to him, since the return of democracy in 1999, the constituency has not enjoyed meaningful federal presence due to the alleged inability of past representatives to lobby effectively for developmental projects.
“As a young person exposed to the wider world, I can say our constituency has not been fairly represented. The dividends of democracy have not reached us. Apart from lawmaking, lawmakers must lobby for projects, but if you look critically, no major project has been brought to our constituency”, he lamented.
Lawrence expressed confidence that the APC would provide a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a democrat committed to justice and due process. “Looking at President Tinubu, I know he believes in the rule of law and in doing the right thing at the right time,” he said.
He further commended the APC leadership at the constituency, state, and national levels, emphasizing the need for unity as the party works toward strengthening its structures and ensuring the President’s re-election in 2027.
