Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a group in the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aiges of the Concerned National APC Stakeholders Forum on Thursday inaugurated state coordinators of the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Canvassers.
In his welcome remarks, Convener and National Coordinator of the Concerned National APC Stakeholders Forum, Dr. Dominic Alancha, said the gathering is the beginning of a structured grassroots movement which will take the achievements, policies and campaign message of President Bola Tinubu directly to Nigerians at the community level.
Alancha charged the grassroots campaigners to return to their various communities and build support for the APC and its candidate.
According to him, elections are won not in Abuja or the state capitals but at the polling units, wards and local government areas, making grassroots engagement critical to the APC’s success in 2027.
“Our mission is clear: to build a formidable grassroots network capable of delivering our polling units, wards, local government areas and states for the victory of the APC in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.
The National Coordinator told the newly inaugurated coordinators that they were more than party officials, and described them as ambassadors, communicators, mobilizers and leading defenders of the mandate of the party.
Alancha admonished them to engage Nigerians respectfully, listen to citizens’ concerns, explain government policies, use facts to counter misinformation and maintain regular contact with communities beyond election era.
The APC chieftain unveiled what he called the movement’s operational philosophy: “Operation Deliver Your Unit, Deliver Your Ward.”
Speaking further, he explained that the strength of the organisation would be measured by its successes at the polling-unit level.
“If we deliver the polling units, we will deliver the wards. If we deliver the wards, we will deliver the local governments. If we deliver the local governments, we will deliver the states. And if we deliver the states, we will secure victory in 2027,” he added.
Alancha cautioned coordinators against engaging in political hostility, spreading unverified information or harbouring unnecessary divisions within them.
“Build bridges, engage communities, win people through persuasion and demonstrate that progressive politics can be conducted with dignity and responsibility,” he advised.
However, the National Coordinator declined to provide a precise target, but added that the group hoped to mobilise at least five million voters nationwide in support of the APC.
Earlier, in a keynote paper titled “Engendering Progressive Governance: The Role of Citizens,” political analyst and legal scholar Dr. Femi Alabi emphasised the importance of active citizenship in strengthening democratic governance.
Alabi described the APC administration as a government that promotes development, accountability, inclusion, security, economic opportunities and improved quality of life for the people.
According to him, grassroots canvassers serve as a vital link between government and the people by educating citizens on policies and programmes, mobilising lawful democratic participation, listening to community concerns and promoting peaceful political engagement.
“Grassroots canvassers are not merely mobilisers; they are ambassadors of peace, truth, responsible citizenship and service,” he said.
He identified civic education, inclusive participation, community development, public trust and peaceful political engagement as essential pillars for strengthening progressive governance.
The highpoint of the event was the formal inauguration of state coordinators and a renewed commitment by participants to deepen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
