The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has dismissed the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing it as unviable ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dare, reacting via a post on X, criticised Atiku’s recent television interview, arguing that it failed to present a clear policy direction or compelling alternative to the current administration.
According to him, the outing raised concerns about Atiku’s readiness for leadership, citing what he described as inconsistencies and a lack of substantive proposals on key national issues.
He further maintained that mere criticism of government policies without detailed solutions does not amount to effective opposition, insisting that leadership requires clarity, coherence and a unifying vision.
The presidential aide also suggested that Atiku’s comments during the interview did little to strengthen his political standing, noting that they could alienate key constituencies and weaken efforts at coalition-building.
Dare, however, expressed confidence in the current administration’s reform agenda, stating that despite challenges, the government remains focused on delivering results.
Atiku had earlier indicated that the 2027 race could be his final attempt at the presidency, while calling for stronger opposition collaboration ahead of the polls.
