2027: Atiku’s Aide urges issue-based contest, says Nigerians should decide outcome

A senior aide to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarenwaju, has called for the 2027 general election to be determined by the votes of Nigerians rather than post-election court battles.
Speaking during an interview with News Central TV on Wednesday, monitored in Abuja, Olarenwaju said the ADC does not anticipate any legal obstacles to its participation in the next presidential election, expressing confidence that the party’s path to the polls is clear.
He maintained that the forthcoming election should be a contest of ideas and performance, urging all political parties to campaign freely and allow voters to make their choice at the ballot box.
According to Olarenwaju, if the ruling party believes it has performed well in office, it should be prepared to face the electorate instead of relying on judicial outcomes. He added that whichever party emerges victorious should have its mandate accepted as the will of the people.
The ADC chieftain also appealed to politicians who had previously distanced themselves from the party over fears of legal uncertainties to return, following recent judicial developments that reaffirmed the party’s status.
He said the opposition should unite under a common platform to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that the democratic process must be guided by the rule of law and the expressed wishes of the electorate.
