The Youth Parliament for Renewed Hope (YPRH), FCT Chapter, has inaugurated its ward and local government executives, urging young people to support President Bola Tinubu, Senator Philip Aduda and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group also renewed calls for constitutional amendments to grant the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) statehood status, allowing residents to elect a governor and members of a state House of Assembly, like their counterparts in Nigeria’s 36 states.
The inauguration ceremony brought together political leaders, stakeholders, youth representatives, community leaders and support groups, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation, youth participation and good governance in the FCT.
Speaking at the event, the Director of YPRH in the FCT, Hon. Prince Danlami John Kaura, commended President Tinubu’s administration for what he described as its contributions to the territory, particularly infrastructure development and the appointment of an indigene of the FCT as a minister.
Kaura urged FCT residents to reciprocate the administration’s efforts by supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
According to him, the achievements recorded so far should encourage residents to support the President while continuing to demand greater political inclusion and constitutional recognition for the territory.
He said the ultimate goal was to secure statehood status for the FCT, which would enable residents to elect their own governor and state lawmakers.
Kaura charged the newly inaugurated executives to regard their appointments as a call to service, urging them to mobilise voters across the territory in support of Tinubu, Aduda and other APC candidates.
He described the task as an opportunity for young people to contribute to the political advancement and development of the FCT.
The YPRH director also expressed appreciation to Senator Aduda and other stakeholders for their support, which he said contributed to the successful inauguration.
In his keynote address, Senator Aduda called on young people to remain united and shun political violence, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Aduda, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Andrew Gwani, also urged the youths to fulfil their civic responsibilities and participate peacefully in the democratic process.
He assured the group of his continued support and engagement, describing young people as important stakeholders in governance and national development.
The senator expressed confidence in his political record and promised to pursue additional development initiatives for the FCT if returned to the Senate.
“You know my track record of success, and I will do it again,” he said.
Aduda added that he would work to attract more development projects and pursue legislative initiatives aimed at improving the lives of FCT residents.
He also appealed for the support and cooperation of the youth, expressing his determination to restore what he described as the lost glory of the territory through effective representation.
In his remarks, the FCT Senatorial District Coordinator of YPRH, Pastor David Tulanra, said the organisation was prepared to mobilise support for APC candidates across the territory.
Tulanra expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections, adding that the group would continue to engage young people and expand its grassroots mobilisation efforts.
He said the organisation remained committed to promoting responsible political participation and advancing the Renewed Hope agenda.
Highlights of the ceremony included the swearing-in of the newly appointed executives and the presentation of awards to individuals recognised for their contributions to good governance and development in the FCT.
Among the award recipients were Senator Philip Aduda, Maryamu Barnabas, Deputy APC FCT Women Leader; Mr Dan Stephen Ashiyi, Chief Executive Officer of Gbagyi Dance Vibes; the Speaker of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Legislative Council; and the FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, among others.
