The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, to take control of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing his long-standing contributions to the party.
Gbajabiamila reportedly encouraged Abejide to “fight for” and take over the party, insisting it was his right given his commitment and efforts toward its growth over the years.
In addition, Gbajabiamila advised Abejide not to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging him instead to remain in the ADC and consolidate his influence within the party.
He further charged the lawmaker to “scatter” the party’s present structure as part of efforts to reclaiming it as rightful leader
He also called on the lawmaker to reposition and restructure the party, suggesting a shake-up of its current structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, in his goodwill message, had urged Abejide to join the APC, creating a contrast with the position of the President’s Chief of Staff but Gbaja charge Abejide remains in the ADC
The remarks were made on Sunday in Abuja during Abejide’s 20th wedding anniversary and the 50th birthday of his wife, Modupe.
The development signals potential internal realignments within the ADC, as political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
Also speaking at the event, Senator Sunday Karimi dismissed the emerging opposition coalition, describing it as a gathering of “the same old politicians” with nothing new to offer Nigerians, while urging patience with the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
