A broad coalition of workers, tradespeople, and civil society actors under the banner of Working People United (WOPU) has formally declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a press conference held on Wednesday in Abuja, addressed by Comr. Musa Istiphanus Fadawa, the FCT Coordinator of Working People United.
Speaking on behalf of teachers, nurses, drivers, artisans, civil servants, and informal sector workers, Fadawa stated that the unanimous decision followed extensive consultations across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and key states across the federation.
Fadawa commended President Tinubu for demonstrating uncommon empathy and open-door leadership toward Nigerian workers, pointing to the approval of wage awards and the new national minimum wage as key evidence of his commitment to the working class.
“For the first time in many years, working people feel seen, heard, and respected at the highest level of government,” Fadawa said, highlighting the President’s preference for constructive dialogue over confrontation with organized labour groups such as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Addressing the government’s tough economic decisions—including the removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign exchange unification, Fadawa acknowledged the initial hardships but emphasized that the reforms are beginning to yield positive economic stabilization and revenue growth.
“Previous governments were afraid to take hard decisions because they wanted to be popular.
“President Tinubu stayed and faced them. Any serious surgery is painful, but today, we are beginning to see the results,” he noted.
The group also highlighted significant infrastructural developments across the FCT under the leadership of the Minister of the FCT, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, citing road rehabilitation, urban renewal, and project delivery across AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali.
To deepen grassroots support, WOPU announced a strategic collaboration with the City Boy Movement, particularly its FCT Chapter, to mobilize voters at the ward, market, and motor park levels.
Outlining its roadmap ahead of 2027, the group pledged to engage in extensive ward-to-ward campaigns, register voters, and promote the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda across all 36 states and the FCT.
“2027 is about continuity and consolidation.
“Nigeria cannot afford to go back to policy summersaults and abandoned reforms,” Fadawa declared, calling on all Nigerian workers and citizens to support stability and national progress.
