The Independent National Electoral Commission has omitted the New Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from its final list of candidates for the 2027 election.
The list, signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains 17 governorship candidates and their running mates but does not include Gwarzo or any candidate from the NDC.
The omission raises questions about the party’s participation in the Kano governorship election.
A review of the list shows that candidates from several political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, Labour Party and Social Democratic Party, were included.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was listed as the APC candidate, while Abacha Muhammed Sani was named as the PDP candidate.
Other parties featured on the list include the Action Alliance, African Action Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Allied Peoples Movement and New Democratic Party.
The document contains details of the candidates and their running mates, including their names, political parties, ages, genders and educational qualifications.
However, INEC did not state why the NDC and its governorship candidate were absent from the published list.
It is also unclear whether the omission is connected to the party’s nomination process, documentation or any other issue.
The absence of Gwarzo from the list does not, on its own, establish the reason for his exclusion.
INEC is yet to provide an explanation in the document, leaving the circumstances surrounding the NDC candidate’s omission unclear.
