The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has inaugurated a reconciliation committee to resolve internal disputes and unite aggrieved members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Thursday by Governor Nasir Idris, represented by his deputy, Senator Umar Tafida, who urged members to work towards restoring unity and strengthening the party’s structures.
Idris said the committee must discharge its responsibilities with fairness and a strong sense of commitment, stressing that internal cohesion was essential to the APC’s electoral prospects.
He urged party leaders to give aggrieved members the opportunity to express their grievances and prioritise collective interests over personal differences.
The governor said constructive dialogue, mutual understanding and inclusive engagement were necessary to address disagreements and improve the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
The chairman of the committee, retired General Magoro, pledged to listen to aggrieved members, identify the causes of disputes and work towards lasting solutions.
He disclosed that the committee would visit all 21 local government areas of the state to engage party officials, stakeholders and other relevant groups.
According to him, the visits would enable the panel to assess grievances at the grassroots and make recommendations for strengthening the party.
“Our mission is not merely to settle immediate disputes but also to encourage a culture of dialogue, cooperation and collective responsibility that will sustain party unity beyond the electoral period,” Magoro said.
The convener of the committee and Managing Director of the National Airspace Management Agency, Ahmed Faruk Umar, described the initiative as an important platform for addressing legitimate concerns and preventing internal disagreements from weakening the party.
He commended Idris for supporting the reconciliation process and called on members to cooperate with the committee.
Umar urged stakeholders to channel their grievances through constructive engagement, expressing confidence that sustained dialogue would strengthen the APC’s political base.
Also speaking, APC chieftain Umar Büro pledged his support for the initiative and urged members to “put aside their differences”.
He said the success of the exercise would depend on the willingness of party leaders and members to “embrace compromise, mutual respect and collective action”.
Similarly, Alhaji Atiku Bunu backed the initiative and warned stakeholders against actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.
The committee is expected to engage stakeholders across the Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru Emirates as part of efforts to promote understanding and lasting reconciliation.
Retired Justice Sulaiman Ambursa is the vice-chairman of the committee, while Rilwanu Abarshi Yauri will serve as secretary. Ahmed Faruk Umar will serve as coordinator.
