2027: NDC warns support groups against creating parallel campaign structures

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned support groups and other affiliates against presenting themselves as parallel structures of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The warning followed an announcement by John Ugulu on behalf of the OK Movement, which purportedly unveiled a Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the party.

The NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses, in a statement, said the purported campaign council was not authorized by the party and should therefore be disregarded.

Moses said only the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council or any other campaign structure in the name of the NDC.

“The party hereby dissociates itself in totality from the said OK Movement PCC announcement. It did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded by the public and the media,” he said.

The NDC chairman further reminded party candidates that their participation in the 2027 elections is under the platform and authority of the party, stressing that they are not independent candidates.

He also warned members, candidates and support groups against taking actions capable of undermining the party’s authority or creating divisions within its organizational structure.

According to Moses, the party recognizes the contributions of its various support groups and remains willing to work with them in advancing its political objectives.

However, he maintained that such groups must operate as supporters of the party rather than alternative or parallel organs.

“While the party will continue to work collaboratively with all support groups, such groups should not see themselves as alternative party structures or parallel organs of the party,” he said.
