The Coalition of Northern Groups has cautioned against any move to weaken the electronic transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group said electronic transmission remains critical to blocking result manipulation and restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

In a statement on Saturday ,the National Coordinator of the coalition, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expressed concern over what he described as growing attempts by some political actors to frustrate the full deployment of electronic result transmission.

According to him, Nigeria’s electoral crises over the years have largely occurred at the collation stage, where results are allegedly altered to subvert the will of voters.

Charanchi said electronic transmission was designed to close that gap by ensuring results transmitted from polling units cannot be tampered with by politicians or compromised officials.

He declared that the technology was “not optional, not experimental and not negotiable”, describing it as the last safeguard between democracy and electoral fraud.

The coalition warned that any resistance to electronic transmission amounted to resistance to transparency and accountability in governance.

It also faulted what it called recent comments and legislative signals from the Senate President and some lawmakers, which it claimed were aimed at diluting the reform.

Charanchi said such actions were dangerous and could push the country back to an era of disputed elections and legitimacy crises.

The group warned that repeated controversies around election outcomes could fuel violence, deepen public distrust and threaten national stability.

The coalition urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain firm and deploy full electronic transmission of results without compromise.

It also called on the National Assembly to halt any legislative moves capable of weakening transparency in the electoral process.

According to the group, credible elections are not only a democratic necessity but also vital for national security, economic stability and social cohesion.

The coalition appealed to civil society organisations, youth groups and the media to intensify advocacy and vigilance ahead of the 2027 polls.

It vowed to resist any attempt to reverse electoral reforms, insisting that Nigerians would not accept anything short of credible, transparent and technology-driven elections.
