By Lateef Ibrahim, Abuja

Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Yusuf has revealed that his former deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made attempt to remove him from office, with a view to taking over the reins of power before his eventual resignation.

The Governor specifically said that what happened was an effort by his erstwhile deputy to remove him from his position and take over, but that the plan did not succeed.

Alhaji Yusuf, who spoke on Friday while playing host to a group of praise singers, Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida, at the Government House in Kano, equally said he was yet to see the resignation letter of his former deputy.

Friday’s comments by the Kano State Governor was, apparently, his first public reaction to the political rift that culminated in his deputy’s exit.

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, it will be recalled, had recently stepped down from office in the wake of impeachment move initiated by the State House of Assembly against him.

The impeachment move was, however, subsequently jettisoned following the resignation of Gwarzo.

The governor, while receiving his visitors, maintained that he was yet to receive any formal resignation letter from his former deputy.

He expressed serious surprise over the circumstances surrounding his (Gwarzo’s) resignation.

His words, “Today, the deputy governor elected alongside us is no longer in office.

“To the best of my knowledge, no wrongdoing was committed against him.

“I have not even seen his resignation letter,” he declared.

The Governor, who had since dumped the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, (NNPP), The party that bought him into office, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,

said that Abdussalam’s actions were part of a failed attempt to unseat him and assume control of the state government.

His words, “What happened was an effort to remove me from this position and take over, but that plan did not succeed”.
