The Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Rufai Hanga has expressed confidence that despite attacks and intimidation, the opposition political parties will triumph and win presidential election in 2027.
According to him, though the opposition is being weakened daily and despite the fact that everybody seems to be on the side of the President, including almost all the state governors, the opposition parties will surprisingly win 2027 election.
Going down memory lane, the Kano Central Senator said “there was a time, ten serving governors, at the end of their tenure, aspired for senatorial seats. Only three out of them won, seven failed.
“If all the governors in the country go with them, it doesn’t hold water. The important thing is to know that it is between Nigerians and them. Go to the streets and do a public survey, you will discover that 90% of Nigerians are against this government”, adding that “certainly the opposition is very strong and will triumph.
“Now they are desperate, using all tactics. Look at what is happening with ADC and all the parties. Any party that begins to gather momentum, they will send somebody, give them money to go cause stupid litigation. They are using the judges to give some nonsense judgments. It is a matter of time, it will fizzle out”.
He said the ADC is the strongest coalition and they are waiting for Wednesday’s Supreme verdict to know the next line of action assuring that whichever way the judgment goes, they have their fall back position, adding that they will keep on doing it until they triumph.
“I see they are desperate. Just like you are arguing with a friend and he begins to abuse you. You know he has lost. That is what’s happening. Let them give us a free and fair level playing ground. It will surprise them. No matter what they do, I assure you we are winning because the people are with us.
He said those in power have amassed money, but added “it is not about money. What I know is no matter how atrocious they are, God will judge, people will judge, time will judge”.
He said the government knows they’ve not done well, but “the unfortunate thing is that Mr. President does not seem to know. I think they’ve caged him. If he knows what is happening, he wouldn’t have been making the comments he is making these days. They are telling him lies. They should have told him the truth for him to make some changes or make amends on the style he is ruling the country.
“They are hiding people’s suffering, crying, hunger, poverty and unemployment to him. There are so many people on the streets, the insecurity is too much. It’s scandalous that 100 people will be abducted at the same time, like animals, and they are nowhere to be traced. It’s shameful.
Hanga said his disappointment personally is that President Tinubu is “somebody who was very unique when he governed Lagos, he did very well in Lagos. We were hopeful that when he comes to Nigeria, Nigeria will be different, because Buhari underperformed. When he came, we thought he’s a saviour, but unfortunately, we were wrong.
