The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has distanced itself from the presidential campaign committee reportedly constituted to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party said the committee’s list was released without consultation with its state leadership, insisting that the process did not follow established party procedures.
Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, stated this in a statement on Thursday, alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s camp failed to engage the party’s leadership before making the list public.
Lawal, however, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that support for the President did not justify bypassing the APC’s internal structures and guidelines.
According to him, the composition and inauguration of the campaign committee should involve proper consultation with relevant stakeholders and comply with the party’s established procedures.
He maintained that the list currently in circulation did not have the endorsement of the APC leadership in Osun State.
“In as much as we consider the re-election of the national leader of our party, President Tinubu, as a collective task which we have been working vigorously and assiduously to achieve through various means, it is our view and conviction that such an exercise should be properly scheduled,” Lawal said.
The state chairman emphasized that the APC remained committed to mobilizing support for Tinubu in 2027 but insisted that the process of establishing campaign structures must reflect the party’s organizational framework.
The development highlights disagreements over the constitution of the President’s re-election campaign machinery in Osun State, particularly over consultation, party authority and the recognition of the leadership responsible for coordinating the exercise.
Despite rejecting the committee’s inauguration, the Osun APC maintained that its position should not be interpreted as opposition to Tinubu’s second-term ambition, but rather as a demand for adherence to due process within the party.
