Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has emerged as the consensus presidential choice of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders banking on public nostalgia over his administration to reconnect with voters nationwide.
A chieftain of the party, Umar Sani, disclosed on Tuesday that the Taminu Turaki-led PDP settled for Jonathan after assessing the political mood across the country and identifying his perceived popularity among ordinary Nigerians as a major electoral advantage.
Speaking on Trust TV, monitored in Abuja, Sani said many Nigerians still remember Jonathan’s years in office between 2010 and 2015 for what they describe as lower living costs and relative economic stability.
According to him, the PDP also considered the appeal of presenting a candidate expected to serve only one term, arguing that such a strategy could attract support from different voting blocs across the country.
Sani noted that memories of cheaper food prices during Jonathan’s tenure remain one of the strongest sentiments driving public support for the former president, adding that many Nigerians still compare current economic realities with conditions under his administration.
