2027: Tinubu faces growing opposition ahead of next election, says Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is entering the 2027 presidential race with diminishing political support, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, monitored in Abuja, the former presidential aspirant argued that Tinubu’s prospects of securing a second term would depend on whether he can meet the constitutional requirements for victory.
According to Momodu, the President must first secure the required spread of votes, including at least 25 per cent of the votes in the stipulated number of states, before he can be declared winner.
He, however, maintained that Tinubu currently faces widespread opposition across the country.
“The hatred for Tinubu is unprecedented. The majority of the people are opposed to him right now, including people within his own party,” Momodu said.
The ADC chieftain further claimed that Tinubu no longer enjoys the level of support he received from the North during the 2023 election, adding that the President is also facing political challenges in parts of the South.
Momodu specifically alleged that Osun State, which he described as Tinubu’s ancestral home, did not back the President in the last election and would likely do the same in 2027.
