25, 000 persons benefit from free eye-care programme in Delta

No fewer than 25, 000 persons across Delta State have benefited from the Ogbedo Eye-care Programme which kicked started last Thursday in Asaba. The wife of the State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa who commended the organizer, Dr. Ernest Ogbedo for its selfless efforts, described the free eye service as good signs of God uplifting the state to enviable height.
She said: “we have now many people who have been lifted up by this eye care programme. Dr. Ogbedo is a man which a large heart in doing work of humanity” and called on Nigerians to emulate Ogbedo’s legacy in giving, as well as putting samples on the faces of the people.”
Describing the origin of recovering sight to the blind, and the visually impared, Dame Okowa said that Ogbedo’s inspiration may had been taken from Saint Luke 4:17-19 on recovering of sight to the blind from the less-privileged. She said that over 40 percent of people in Delta State were blind, adding that lots of children close to 18 percent cannot see well due to cataract or minor ailments treatable, insisting that “if government interest on eye health care, it will reduce gender equality and infant mortality”.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has expressed its willingness to partner with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Delta State Command in the training of drivers in the civil service. Mr. Reginald Bavoko, the State Head of Service who confirmed this to journalists in Asaba, said the present administration places high premium on the capacity building of the workforce for optimum performance, adding that training of civil servants, especially drivers on road safety and traffic management would no doubts improve their knowledge and enhance the performance of their job.
Bayoko, however, commended the sector commander, Mr. Random Kumvea for ensuring reduction of road accidents in the recent times on Asaba Onitsha Expressway, assuring that, the State Government will continue to co-operate with road safety workers to enhance its performances of its statutory duties.
