About 250 people are currently working on sewing the cloth, or veil, used to cover the Ka’abah Mosque in SaudiArabia, an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Shamwilu Muhammad Nasir, disclosed this on Wednesday to journalists in Makkah.
According to him, it will take the workers a complete year to sew the cloth, adding that the threads used in sewing the cloth were imported from Italy, while the material were sourced from Germany.
The scholar, who led a delegation of Kaduna pilgrims and officials to exhibition center for the two holy Mosque located within Makkah metropolis, said the hardworking men were people who devoted their
time and energy in serving the religion of Allah.The scholar said the reason for the visitation was to enable the pilgrims see how Saudi authority is really working hard to see that Islam progresses.
“In those years, the cloth used to cover the Ka’abah was been brought from Egypt, because then, the Saudis lacked the technical knowhow to sew the cloth but over the years they decided to learn how to do it themselves. Today, as we speak, the guide at the centre said about 250 people sew the black cloth that is used to cover the Ka’abah.
“Those people include the tailors, those whose duty is to write the Quranic verses on the cloth, among others. The amazing thing is that it took these people a complete one year to finish the work. In fact, as we speak now, they have already started working on the cloth for next year,” he said
From the sewing centre, the pilgrims moved to where the historical items removed from the Ka’abah dated from 1299 A.H. todate were kept for people to go and see, so that they can appreciate the wonders of Allah. Some of the items kept there include old monuments of the Ka’abah, pictures of the Ka’abah at the early stage of Islam and the architectural plan for the expansion of both Makkah and Madinah Mosques in the near future.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Religious Affairs Islamic Matters, Alhaji AbdulRahman Mahmoud, who was among the pilgrims that embarked on the visit, thanked the scholar for deeming it fit to organize the historical visit, saying it has surely served as eye opener for most of them.
He further appealed to the pilgrims not to relent in their efforts to continue praying for the country, so as to have a peaceful conduct of the general elections come 2015.
