Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, said in just two years, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has completed 260 palliative road projects nationwide, costing N208 billion
The minister stated this during the eighth edition of the Ministerial Press in Abuja, yesterday.
Umahi said the roads include the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, 375km Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Sokoto–Badagry highway, Kaduna Eastern Bypass, among others.
“The Northwest is fully loaded. You have the Kano, which we terminated from Julius Berger and that is Section 1 and Section 3, a 118 km, which we have re-awarded to Infiouest on the total contract sum of N252bn.
“We also injected street lights with 5 km of reinforced concrete pavement has been completed.
“Also, Section 2 is 64 km by 2, which is 128 km, is also being redesigned on rigid pavement for a total contract sum of N525bn.
“When you get to Sokoto to Zamfara. and Zamfara to Kasina Katsina to Kaduna. It’s a total of 375 km by 2, which is 750 km. And this we inherited. The total contract sum is N872bn.”
He added that the administration inherited 2,604 projects, with 65 of them currently ongoing .
Umahi said 2,604 projects inherited amounted to about N13 trillion with another N1trn debt owed to contractors for completing jobs.
He, however, said the cost of the projects had increased to about N20 trillion with the devaluation of the naira.
He stated that 440 road infrastructure projects were currently ongoing across the country, all approved under the President’s directive.
“Beyond this, 29 major infrastructure projects, totaling over N2 trillion, have been undertaken, demonstrating an unparalleled dedication to revitalizing our national infrastructure,” he added.
The Minister emphasised the transformative impact of these projects on the nation’s economy and connectivity.
“The sheer number of ongoing road infrastructure projects – 440 across the country – is a testament to Mr. President’s vision and his unwavering resolve to connect our communities and boost economic activities,” he stated further.
