29 secure first class, as IBBU Lapai graduates 6,348

All arrangements have been concluded by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai for the graduation of 6,348 students for 2013/14, 2016/17 sessions slated for Saturday, 30th June, 2018 with 29 of them with first class degrees.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mohammad Nasir Maiturare made the disclosure in a 2nd Combine Convocation Ceremony press briefing yesterday in Minna.
Maiturare stated that a total of 1,281 students passed out with second class upper and 3,290 of them had second class lower while 1,613 had third class degrees with 135 coming out with pass degrees representing 2.1% of the graduating students.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that the university is graduating first set of 118 students of Post Graduate Programs with 32 Masters Degree and 82 Diplomas.
Maiturare further hinted that the Convocation ceremony will mark the confirmation of a prominent cleric in the state Shiekh Ahmed Lemu will Honorary Degree while Director General of NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru to be given Honorary Fellowship of the University.
He informed that the event will witnessed the launching of N7 billion endowment fund for the institution ambitious projects, desired projects, uncompleted projects, offices, clinics hence government alone cannot provided the needs of the university at a goal.
He enumerated activities line up for the exercise which includes lectures, cancer awareness, conference, novelty march, dinner and commissioning of some of the completed structures, facilities, research centres especially donated to the university projects.
Daily Times’ security guard allegedly absconds with employer’s laptops A 26-year-old security guard, Jackson Effiong, who was hired by the Daily Times Nigeria Ltd, broke into one of the offices and stole two laptops worth N200,000, the prosecution told a Lagos court on Monday.
Mr Effiong, a resident of Alausa in Ikeja, is facing a charge of stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused allegedly committed the offence on April 28 at Daily Times Ltd, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
“The accused, who was on night duty, closed from work the following morning and carted away the two laptops.
“He ran away and refused to come to work since then.
“When he was finally apprehended, he could not give account of the laptops and he was handed over to the police,” Police Prosecutor Dada Wasiu told the court.
The offence violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence carries three years imprisonment.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.K Dosumu, who gave the ruling, said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.
Further hearing has been adjourned until July 16. (NAN)
