Music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has announced plans to release his first studio album in over six years, marking what he describes as a deeply personal chapter in his career.

The album, tentatively titled Born Again, is scheduled for release in April.

In an exclusive interview with Voice of Nigeria, the award-winning singer said the 10-track project reflects his present mindset, lived experiences and evolving social consciousness.

“It’s basically a compilation of music that tells a story of where I am currently,” he said. “It’s raw. It’s honest. It’s me.”

Unlike his previous works, 2Baba said the new album would be more direct and introspective, with fewer collaborations.

“For now, I’m recording strictly just me,” he stated, adding that while he would love to collaborate with others, this phase demands solitude and sincerity.

One of the standout tracks, Away Love, explores how life gradually pulls childhood friends in different directions without conflict or bitterness.

“It’s about somebody you grew up with… you didn’t quarrel. It’s just life,” he explained.

The singer said the song captures a universal reality — drifting apart as responsibilities grow, yet holding on to shared memories.

Beyond music, 2Baba disclosed plans to relaunch his “Vote Not Fight” campaign aimed at promoting peaceful and informed youth participation in elections.

He also revealed that his “Music Against Violence” tour would feature performances across the country to advocate unity and empathy.

“You can never overemphasise the need for people to start understanding each other,” he said.

The 49-year-old father of eight admitted that balancing fame and fatherhood remains one of his greatest struggles.

“I feel blessed, but I wish I was there more for them. It touches me,” he said.

Addressing public perception, he dismissed narratives portraying him negatively, insisting he remains grounded despite over two decades of global acclaim.

“Fame is like a drug sometimes. You have to stay true to yourself,” he noted.

2Baba also confirmed a new management partnership with showbiz promoter Mallam Yankee, describing the move as a mature step in his career.

“This chapter of my life is more mature. We’re going to do beautiful things together,” he added.

From a secondary school dream in Makurdi to international recognition, the singer said patience would be the advice he would give his younger self.

As April approaches, fans now await what could be one of the most reflective albums of his storied career.
