The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has reiterated its commitment to promoting gender inclusiveness and mainstreaming women’s participation in tax administration across the state.
This was asserted by the Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Mr. Zakari Muhammad, at a two-day Gender-Responsive Budget Literacy Workshop for Citizens and Civil Society Organisations in Kaduna yesterday.
He described the initiative as part of the cardinal objectives of the Service under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Comrade Jerry Adams.
According to him, the Service has established a Committee on the Gender Inclusion of Women in Taxation, chaired by the Board Secretary and Legal Adviser, Barr. Aisha Ahmed Mohammed.
He added that, the committee works closely with the Tax Justice and Governance Platform and other civil society partners to educate women actively engaged in economic activities on proper financial record-keeping to support fair taxation.
Muhammad highlighted that one of the major strategies adopted by the Service was the conduct of step-down trainings known as Tax Clinics, which are organised in markets across Kaduna State.
“These clinics are designed to provide market women and other grassroots economic actors with practical knowledge about taxation, record-keeping, and their rights within the tax system.”
