The Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni has donated 18-seater bus to National Qur’anic Recitation Competition’s Foundation of Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University (UDU), and two Hajj seats to the winners.
Gov. Buni disclosed this on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
He said his administration held Qur’anic knowledge in high esteem, adding that he recently donated 115,000 copies of the Qur’an to organizations and Islamic schools in the state.
The governor charged the gathering to pray for peace in the country and eschew any act of discrimination on the basis of ethnicity or religion.
Prof. Abubakar Yalwa, Director, Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University (UDU), announced the result at the end of the one-week competition.
While announcing the results, Prof. Yelwa said, Ibrahim Nasir from Bauchi state and Zainab Mohammad of Kano state have won the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation competition of this year.
“Ibrahim Nasir and Zainab Mohammed competed in memorization of the full Qur’an with commentary and different modes of recitation, scored 82.7 percent and 85.4 percent, to clinch male and female categories.”
