No fewer than 47 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge under the Stefanos Foundation camp, at Zang Secondary Commercial School, in Bukuru, Plateau state, have tested positive to hepatitis.
The declaration was made known yesterday, by the management of Stefanos Foundation, in Bukur, Jos-South local government of the state.
The Manager of the Foundation, Ayuba Plangji who represented the Coordinator of the Progarmme, Eng. Mark Lipdo, when the national president, youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ekiye Ekiye paid a visit to the camp, decried that the infected persons were in urgent need of treatment.
He explained that “the money needed will cost us about N250, 000 to treat the patients and you know that if one person is infected with hepatitis then all the others are at risk.”
However, the protem national youth president of CAN, Ekiye Ekiye, while speaking to the victims at the camp, said, “You have been displaced from your homes for a crime you never committed and now you are faced with a situation you never envisaged. We are here to share in your pains and your relief and we urge you not to give up your faith.”
The group however distributed three bags of rice and about 20 cartons of noodles to the IDP’s ahead of Christmas.
