The newly elected 6th Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Gwagwalada and District Society, Mr. Osanaiye Abel Olayemi, has been sworn into office alongside 12 other executive committee members.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Saturday at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, was administered by the District Coordinator, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Adamu.
In his charge to the new leadership, AVM Adamu urged the executives to remain fiercely committed to professional ethics, tasking them to uphold accountability, credibility, and transparency.
He further advised the committee to introduce fresh innovations capable of advancing the accounting profession and driving development within the Gwagwalada district.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Mr. Olayemi, pledged to pilot the affairs of the district with integrity, dedication, and purposeful leadership.
He revealed that a primary goal of his tenure is the rapid construction of a permanent district secretariat.
“The major focus of this chairmanship year is to align our programs with the Institute’s agenda for the 2026/2027 presidential year, themed ‘We are ICAN.
“We hope to achieve this through student and membership development, strengthening professional excellence, and demonstrating ICAN’s relevance in our community,”Olayemi stated.
Earlier, the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Sani Abdu Danbaba, highlighted his administration’s achievements, which included organizing major accounting conferences across Minna, Lagos, Oka, and Port Harcourt.
Danbaba also disclosed that the district has finalized arrangements to honor the best-graduating accounting students at the university level.
