No fewer than 918,068 individuals have received Oral Cholera Vaccination in three cholera hotspot Local Government areas of Bichi, Bebeji and Tofa in Kano state.
This was revealed by Abdullahi Isa Kauranmata, Deputy Director Public Health, Kano state Ministry of Health in his presentation during a feedback presentation of Kano State 2022 Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign and Post OCV Campaign Survey in 3 Selected LGAs, Bichi, Bebeji and Tofa, held in Kano yesterday.
During the presentation, Kauranmata said 924, 720 OCV doses of vaccine were used during the vaccination exercise.
According to him, a proportion of the vaccinated people indicated that male were 424,137, representing 44 percent while 493,931 female, representing 56%.
“In the three Local Governments, there were more female immunized than male. Bichon has the highest vaccinated people with 452,687, followed by Bebeji with 307,413 then Tofa with 157,918,” he explained.
The Deputy Director disclosed that the survey targeted 880,681 individuals across 40 watsa of the three hotspot Local Governments.
He further explained that 180, out of 1,710 settlements were selected for the exercise in the selected LGAs, adding that individuals from 1 year to above were vaccinated.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, expressed delight with the presentation, which according to him, indicated drastic reduction in the cholera cases in the three hotspot LGAs.
According to him, the success is the pointer to the reduction of the cases in other Local Government areas of the state, adding that the government would not rest on its ores until it check further outbreak in the state.
He however called on the general public to imbibe the culture of environmental, food and personal hygiene, noting that this is the way to support the government ‘s effort towards fighting the outbreak of diseases in the state.
