Malnutrition: WFI dialogue with Abaji, Kwali legislators

As part of efforts to mitigate the rising cases of malnutrition across communities in FCT, Women Friendly Initiative (WFI) has met separately with legislators of Bwari and Kwali Area Councils on fashioning out ways to end poor intake of nutrients by the residents.
Speaking at a One-Day dialogue with Kwali legislators, the Program Officer on Advocacy of the non-governmental organisation (NGO), Rosemary Adejo-Adaji said the meeting with the councillors was to collaborate on the fight against malnutrition.
She said given the role of legislators in budget preparation, there was the need to dialogue with them on how best to make adequate provision for nutrition activities.
Mrs. Adaji urged the legislators to create a dedicated budget line for nutrition in 2018 Appropriation Bill, “with the legislators our fight against malnutrition will be successful.”
The programme officer said with synergy among stakeholders’ nutrition challenges would be addressed.
Also, speaking, he FCT nutrition coordinator, Mrs Okoro Clementina Ebere appealed to both council chairmen and the councillors to initiate additional strategies that would help both the NGO and Health Departments of the council to achieve positive results.
Mrs. Okoro said the FCT Nutrition Department was keen on major areas that would enhance the exercise across the communities to promote the wellbeing of the populace.
In their separate remarks, the Speaker of Abaji Area Council, Abubakar Sadiq, and Head of Department for Health, Kwali Area Council, Adudu Samuel commended the NGO for its commitment to sensitising those directly involved in projecting nutrition activities across councils.
