Oba of Benin moves to ensure food security, quality education

The Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, had a necessary encounter with reality when he rolled-out a set of programmes towards addressing the plight of vulnerable people in society.
This was the fulcrum of Oba Ewuare II, Foundation held at the palace of the Oba of Benin at the Weekend in Edo state Capital.
The Ceremony was part of activities to mark the First Anniversary Coronation of the 40th Oba of Benin.
Addressing the people, Oba Ewuare II, said the establishment of the Farm produce discount market would assist the less privileged in the society whose purchasing power has been reduced by the economic reality in the Country.
The Royal father listed other component of the programme to include, Foundry at Ogonerie, which would help improve the work of Igun Guilds of Bronze Casters, while, the feeding Programme and Benin Royal Academy for Performing Arts which would be headed by Mrs. Josephine Abbe.
He said Mrs. Abbe who will be supported by international Artistes, will coordinate the training young ones in the various aspects of arts in the Academy which shall also award Diploma Certificates to graduands at the end of every academic session.
The Traditional ruler, said the existing scholarship scheme at different levels of education which no fewer than twelve persons were already benefitting, would be expanded to cover children who display uncommon talent and interest in Benin Language.
There was presentation of food items during the programme which guests at the event described as historic and measure that would put idle hands in society to work.
