Kano govt approves N73m for measles vaccination

The Kano state government has approved the sum of seventy three million naira for commencement of vaccination of measles in the state.
This was disclosed by the state’s governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, during the flag off ceremony of the exercise in Faragai town, Albasu Local Government area, yesterday.
Ganduje, represented by Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, also disclosed that, more than 2.5 million children would be immunized against the dreaded disease across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He warned that measles is one of the dangerous diseases, which, if not controlled in time, it may cause death or affect brain, adding that was the reason why the government was up and doing to check the outbreak of the disease.
Ganduje explained that the exercise would be commenced in 25 local councils and last for 6 days, adding that the remaining 19 LGAs would take over for another 6 days.
He called on parents not to relent to bring their children to the nearest health facility for the vaccination, calling however on the parents to keep their vaccination card for record.
In his remarks, the emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was represented by the Sarkin Yakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Aliyu, restated the emirate council’s commitments to support the vaccination exercise for the well-being of the teeming children in the state.
