The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling malnutrition by adopting the 2026/2027 Annual Work Plan for the FCT Committee on Food and Nutrition (FCT-CFN) and inaugurating a new State Aid Diversion Committee to enforce transparency in resource management.

Director of Information And Communication, FCTA, the decisions were finalized at the close of a three-day capacity building workshop and second-quarter meeting held in Abuja, organized by the Department of Food and Nutrition under the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public-Private Partnership Secretariat (EPRGPPPS), in collaboration with UNICEF.
Opening the workshop, the Mandate Secretary of EPRGPPPS and Committee Chairman, Arc. Ubokutom Nyah, represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Uba Bala emphasized that optimizing food security and child nutrition is pivotal for human capital development across the Territory.
As part of efforts to protect nutrition supplies from sharp practices, Nyah inaugurated the FCT State Aid Diversion Committee to oversee commodities and funding allocation.
Highlighting the critical role of public health, the Acting Executive Secretary of the FCT Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Dan Gadzama, noted that addressing fundamental nutrition challenges could resolve over 70% of the territory’s primary health issues.
“Nutrition is fundamentally multi-sectoral. Tackling malnutrition effectively demands unified action across healthcare, agriculture, social welfare, and education,” Gadzama stated.
Echoing this, Director of Food and Nutrition Celina Gaza-Oluwafemi urged delegates to translate capacity building into actionable tools for resource mobilization.
Equally, UNICEF representative, Dr. Chizoba Steve-Edemba encouraged the FCTA to leverage the Child Nutrition Fund and deepen private-sector partnerships to bridge existing financing gaps.
The statement added that key resolutions from the workshop include revitalizing the FCT Home Grown School Feeding Programme, strengthening Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives, and improving domestic resource mobilization in alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
