President Muhammadu Buhari has said that education upgrades the living standard of citizens, adding that education enables people to become better and more productive citizens.
He said this during the presidential summit on education held at old Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, pointing out that the summit was aimed at refocusing the education sector in order to arrest the education some challenges facing the education in the country.
His words: “This administration is committed to revitalizing our education system and making it more responsive and globally competitive”.
“One of the primary roles education is to build and sustain individual and society’s development. It renews and improves the economic, social, political and cultural aspects of any nation” he said.
He, therefore, frowned at the state of the education in the country, noting that the quality of education in Nigeria needed the necessary attention and development.
The president estimated that about 13.2 million children were out of school coping with high illiteracy level and infrastructural deficit and decay, unqualified teachers as well as inadequate instructional materials.
Buhari assured Nigerians that his administration would not hesitate to tackle the problems facing the education sector as well focusing on capacity building of the teachers.
