WASSCE: 26.01 percent of candidates pass English, Mathematics

West African Examinations Council ( WAEC) has announced the release of West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for private candidates in 2017.
The Head of Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Mr Olu I. Adenipekun, announced the release of the results yesterday in Katsina at a press conference held at the Katsina Motel Conference Hall.
Adenipekun disclosed that 135, 945 candidates registered for the examination out of which he said 133, 223 candidates sat for the examinations, adding that out of this number 67, 279 candidates were male while 65, 944 were females.
He noted that out of the total number that sat for the examinations 131, 485 representing 98.70 per cent have their results fully processed and released while 1,738 candidates representing 1.30 per cent have a few of their subjects still being processed.
He said the none processing of the candidates results arises in the course of registration or writing the examination, assuring that such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their result fully processed and released soon.
According to him, the breakdown of the result showed that a total of 34, 664 representing 26.01 per cent candidates obtained minimum credits in five subjects and above including English Language and General Mathematics.
He similarly disclosed that 111, 763 representing 85.89 per cent obtained credits and above in two subjects, while 98, 506 representing 73. 94 per cent obtained credits and above in three subjects and 83, 256 obtained credits and above in four subjects.
Adenipekun revealed that the examination council had created the additional WASSCE for private candidates, 2018- first series which he said was successfully unveiled and registration for the examination has since commenced with “remarkable response from prospective candidates”.
